Aesop’s fables create pictures of universal truths like a slow and steady tortoise winning a race against a hare.  The story of one girl dying of malaria in Africa stirs more response than dry statistics on the number of deaths each minute.  Stories of Alexander the Great, Queen Victoria, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. allow us to relive those moments in history.  Stories can take us to far away places, into the past or the future, and into imaginative new worlds.  Stories can help us understand history and craft a brand new future.
